Message from the president
Welcome to the GUINNESS RUGBY CLUB WEBSITE
From our club history you will see we have been competing in Leinster rugby since 1942 . Up to the late seventies we were restricted to play Guinness employees only and had to compete with the many other sports sections in the Guinness Athletic Union for new players working in the company.
With falling staff numbers footballing sections found it very tough to field teams. The G A U successfully lobbied the company for permission to allow the general public to join as full members This permitted us to recruit from outside and to transform from a struggling J3 club to our current very competitive J2 status and also to introduce junior rugby.
Thanks to our very talented and dedicated coaches and committees we became the foremost Leinster club in developing junior and underage rugby. Our efforts in this activity were inspirational and many other clubs used us as a template of excellence.
The life’s blood of the club is our youth and they have won competitions at all levels including many leinster caps .
They develop into talented team players and make us proud as they carry the club ethos of inclusion and camaraderie with them always.
This year we have appointed Tony Keogh as our first” Director of Rugby”.
We are delighted to have Aiden Tyrell back from Nass RFC as club coach and Garret Yates as captain. Their talent experience and enthusiasm gives great optimism for this season .
We are always seeking new players and welcome all comers.
I would also like to welcome past club members to re engage with us through the website or better still come to the matches and socials.
I would like to pay tribute to club officers, committee members, coaches ,referees, parents and all who have contributed so much for the club over many years; Thank you.
As president I feel privileged to be associated with this great club and look forward to
Seeing you at the games and in the clubhouse.
BENNY MC MAHON
